Morgan County History

Morgan County recognizes two notable natives of the county. Lancelot Johnson first discovered how to press oil from cottonseeds, revolutionizing the industry. Another native, William Tappan Thompson, founded and acted as editor of The Savannah Morning News.

Morgan County is home to four public schools, serving more than 3,350 students, with a student-teacher ratio of 14:1. Every public school is a charter school. There is one private school in Morgan County, a Christian elementary school that serves 25-plus students.
